Important Information About Our Programs

Talent Show Guidelines

The MVMS Talent Show is a chance for students to showcase their unique talents. Students may sing, dance, act, juggle, ride a unicycle, do stand up comedy, play an instrument, tumble, or something else that will entertain an audience.  What is NOT a talent? Air guitar, food eating, displays of bodily functions, and potentially dangerous stunts are not allowed in the talent show.

To participate in the talent show, students need to create an act and rehearse on their own prior to auditions. If chosen for the show, this is the act they will perform.  Students may perform alone or with friends. Students will have a two week notice prior to auditions. Students may be in one act each, unless they are part of a large act, when they may be in two.

Students are responsible for providing their own music for singing and dancing acts.  Students will not be allowed to sing along with their favorite song and artist.  Students may sing a cappella, use a karaoke track, or provide sheet music for a piano accompanist. (piano accompanist will only be available for a few rehearsals and the performances)

After auditions, a rehearsal schedule will be provided.  Students will rehearse after school anywhere from one to three times a week.  Students are responsible for rehearsing on their own as well.  Acts that are not polished and performance ready by two weeks before the show will not be allowed to perform.

These guidelines are in place in order to keep the talent show audition process fair, and to ensure that our show is the best it can be!

The Spring Play

The MVMS Players perform a play every spring.  Sometimes it's a one-act play, and sometimes it's a collection of shorter skits.  Either way, it's lots of fun!  Students audition by memorizing 15-25 lines of text: either a poem, paragraph, story, or song (spoken, not sung).  They also will read from a script so the director can see how the actors work together.  Once the cast is chosen, rehearsals begin.  Rehearsals are two to three times a week.  Actors are responsible for learning their lines on their own.  Being in the play is a big responsibility; the rest of the cast and crew are counting on you to be there and be prepared!  Sometimes we take our show on the road to perform in the Sandy Andy Drama Fest.  We always do a performance on our home stage at Mountain Valley for our families and friends.

Not into performing?? Join the crew!

We're always looking for people to help behind the scenes.  Some jobs include running the sound equipment or lights, managing the props and sets, line prompting, helping with costumes and hair and makeup, building things, painting, designing programs and posters, and lots more!  If you're interested in being part of the crew, see Mrs. Hilton!

So, who's in charge?

The MVMS Drama Director is Mrs. Kimberly Hilton. She also teaches English Language Arts in Room 33.  She's been involved with theater and music since she was a child.  Her minor in college was in theater arts.  You can contact her at khilton@msad43.org.
